Computational modeling of microstructure

چکیده

Many materials such as martensitic or ferromagnetic crystals are observed to be in metastable states exhibiting a fine-scale, structured spatial oscillation called microstructure; and hysteresis is observed as the temperature, boundary forces, or external magnetic field changes. We have developed a numerical analysis of microstructure and used this theory to construct numerical methods that have been used to compute approximations to the deformation of crystals with microstructure. 2000 Mathematics Subject Classification: 49J45, 65N15, 65N30, 74N10, 74N15, 74N30.

A Hierarchical, Heterogeneous Material CAD Model with Application to Laser Sintering

Variations in laser irradiance and local temperatures in laser sintering cause variations in porosity and material microstructure, which can affect mechanical properties of a part. From the design perspective, it is important to model microstructures, mechanical properties, and their relationships so that parts can be analyzed and designed taking into account their asmanufactured condition. In ...

Effects of melt-pool geometry on crystal growth and microstructure development in laser surface-melted superalloy single crystals. Mathematical modeling of single-crystal growth in a melt pool (part I)

The effects of melt-pool geometrical parameters on crystal growth and microstructure development during laser surface melting of single-crystal alloys were studied by means of mathematical modeling and experiments. A mathematical model was developed for the three-dimensional (3-D) melt-pool geometry and single-crystalline melt-pool solidification in laser surface melting. The 3-D meltpool geome...
